WK&T May Approach Members About Pole Attachments

EECA and West Kentucky and Tennessee Telecommunications Cooperative (WK&T) recently reached a pole attachment agreement which allows WK&T to attach fiber-optic telecommunications cables to EECA-owned utility poles.

While EECA owns the utility poles, WK&T will own and operate their internet business and be responsible for maintaining the cabling they attach. This is not a business partnership, but an agreement to attach fiber-optic cables to approved EECA utility poles that would give our membership access to high-speed internet offered by WK&T, should they choose.

If you are a landlord and you are approached by WK&T, you have the right to grant, or not grant, access across your property to WK&T. When the time comes, EECA will require WK&T to provide proof of a signed easement as part of our pole attachment agreement before the attachment would be allowed.

EECA supports WK&T’s efforts to bring high-speed internet to all rural communities in southern Illinois and hopes members will consider granting them permission by signing their written easement. Doing so will not only grant you access but also help bring high-speed internet to your neighbors and others in the area.
