Information on Big Muddy Solar Project

We want to provide clarification regarding site preparation work near our headquarters and around the Highway 127 and Highway 4 intersection. This work is not affiliated with Egyptian Electric Cooperative. What you are seeing is part of the early stages of solar field development by Big Muddy Solar, led by Arevon Energy, Inc., on privately owned land.

According to Big Muddy Solar’s website, the energy generated at this location “will feed into the local grid via preexisting transmission lines and provide a new, sustainable pool of energy for the state. Since electricity flows to areas that have the highest need, the power produced may be used locally or state-wide, based on demand.”

As a distribution cooperative, EECA does not generate its own power. We are a 1/7 owner of Southern Illinois Power Cooperative (SIPC), located at Lake of Egypt in Marion, IL, and have an all-purchase power agreement with SIPC.
