Murphysboro —To celebrate National Cooperative (Co-op) Month this October, Egyptian Electric Cooperative Association (EECA) is hosting a Halloween Art Contest for children 12 and under in its service area. Co-op Month is a time when cooperatives across the country highlight the cooperative difference and help communities learn what it means to be part of a co-op. EECA is a local rural electric cooperative serving the southwestern part of southern Illinois.
EECA wants kids to get creative while learning a little about energy and cooperatives. Artwork could show a vampire unplugging energy-draining appliances, a haunted house with solar panels, or anything else their imagination can dream up!
Who is Eligible:
The contest is open to all children ages 12 and under who live in or attend a public or private school within Egyptian Electric Cooperative’s service territory. (School districts in our territory include Carbondale, Carterville, Chester, Coulterville, DuQuoin, Elverado, Marissa, Murphysboro, Pinckneyville, Red Bud, Sparta, Steeleville, and Trico.)
Participants do not need to be children or dependents of EECA consumer-members to enter.
Theme:
Artwork can be spooky, silly, or magical, as long as it ties into energy, saving energy, or the idea of a cooperative. This could mean drawing something related to Egyptian Electric Cooperative specifically, or more broadly showing what a cooperative is — people working together to provide a service and support one another.
How to Participate:
- Draw a Halloween-themed picture that shows energy, energy-saving ideas, or the idea of a cooperative.
- Take a clear photo of the artwork.
- Submit the photo by emailing it to info@eeca.coop, with “ART CONTEST” in the subject line. Please include the child’s name, age, parent phone number, community or school, and a brief description of the artwork. (Entries may be shared on social media to promote the contest.)
Deadline: Submit pictures by Wednesday, October 21
Prizes:
- Ages 4–6: Winner receives a STEM or LEGO kit.
- Ages 7–9: Winner receives a STEM or LEGO kit.
- Ages 10–12: 1st Place receives a $50 gift card, with parental approval.
Judging:
Artwork will be judged anonymously. Judges will select a winner in each age group. Winners will be announced on the cooperative’s Facebook page on October 23, and will be contacted directly to select and receive their prizes.
